Palm Beach Police Academy Requirements

Here is a picture of the class that graduated in December of 1976.

1967

Here is a short biography of one of the members of this class:

I started with the Lauderhill PD in October of 1973 working 8 hour shifts as a dispatcher and rode 4 - 6 hours every day (after work) to learn the job as a police officer. I went to Palm Beach Junior College Police Academy in 1976 and graduated in December. (The City of Lauderhill Police Department obtained a Florida State waiver allowing me full law enforcement capabilities even before going to the academy). I graduated number 4 out of 40 in the academy class.

I became a detective 2 years after graduating the academy and stayed on with the Lauderhill Police Department until Broward Sheriff's Office took over the law enforcement responsibilities in April of 1981.

I had been a detective for approximately 23 years to include running the tech unit in the organized crime department. I am currently assigned to patrol at the airport. I now have over 35 years in law enforcement and will retire in approximately 2 more years.
